Sphalerite: brown to yellow
This is from an area of "Mississippi-Valley Type" (MVT) mineralization found in the Lime Crest quarry a couple of years ago. Some of the rock was saved and taken to the Mine Run Dump at Sterling Hill, where small amounts of it can still be found.
The material does not usually fluoresce, although sometimes the fluorite gives a moderate blue-white response LW, and there can also be hydrozincite formed on this rock (fl. blue SW). It is nice simply for its daylight color.
Specimen is about 3.5 inches across.
The Lime Crest Quarry is now underwater.
