Epidote crystals from Andover, NJ
This specimen of epidote with quartz came from the Andover Iron Mine in Andover, Sussex County, New Jersey.  Andover is not that far from the Franklin-Sterling Hill complex.  The Andover mines at one time even yielded a variety of yellow-fluorescing willemite!  This makes a person wonder what else might lie deep beneath the rocks of Sussex county.

Epidote is a complex silicate of calcium, iron and aluminum.  It is in the same group as allanite and clinozoisite, as well as a bunch of much rarer species.
